Infinite Me

Sorry for lagging on posts lately, I've been to busy enjoying the holiday season :P, I hope everyone is having a great time as well :)
One of my newest buys is this black knitted infinity scarf with metallic yarns. Sometimes called an infinity scarf, eternity scarf, tubular scarf, circle scarf, snood, or loop, infinity scarves are popping up everywhere lately on celebrities and in stores. The only difference between an infinity scarf and a regular scarf is that it is fully connected in a circle.

Wearing:
Infinity scarf and olive sweater: thrift, Black jeans: GK 1 M Block Market basements, Knitted Boots: Venus Steps, Striped tee: Old Navy,  cool denim jacket: Benetton

How to wear an Infinity Scarf

The most common way to wear an infinity scarf is to loop it around the neck twice, since mine is a more fine fabric I looped it thrice and just played with the levels of the loops a bit,  its a really fun accessory to wear!
I put together some fun ways to wear one:
  • Putting it through your arms to make it look like a vest
  • Looping it around the neck; twice or thrice
  • Looping it around your neck and then putting it over your head
  • You can even loop it around the neck once and then let the rest hang out on you back; it's a very old Hollywood style of wearing a scarf.
I love Jessica Alba's leopard print one! She really rocks the look!

I love the slight biker chic look this denim jacket has.

These were my favorite boots last winter (as their worn out condition may tell!)

Belated Merry Christmas! and enjoy the holiday season!

Tweed Tales + Featured

We all know what a huge trend the boyfriend blazer has been the past year, celebrities like Blake Lively, Vanessa Hudgens, Rachel Bilson, Miranda Kerr, Victoria Beckham and even Rihanna (to name a few) have been spotted rocking the look.
I wanted mine with a slight twist and found this beautiful vintage tweed blazer, its mostly browns with hints of red, blue and purple yarns woven into the fabric ... BEAUTIFUL!
It has the most gorgeous mauve lining and even though its a little to big for me, I couldn't resist wearing it today!

My camera is giving up on me so Ive been using my brothers i phone to take pictures lately! Its about time I bought myself a decent camera, don't you think?

Wearing:
Tweed blazer: Vintage Bizzare, stone-washed jeans: Penny Lane, Suede ballet flats: The Shoe Garage, Grey tank: Forever 21, White t-shirt: thrift, neck chain and bangle: thrift

I liked how rolling up the sleeves gave the the blazer slight power-shoulders :)

FEATURED FEATURED FEATURED!!!

Guess who got featured in the Indian Express Sunday magazine 'Eye' last Sunday :)
Lucky Me :D

It's a lovely article on how the internet is democratizing fashion, it's a very interesting read and you can read the full article HERE

That's me in the magazine wearing my Club Monaco ruffled lily scarf, my DIY denim skirt (which you can't really see!) and a black t-shirt and tights.

She wears the Pants

My mom's closet is a treasure chest of vintage finds and beautifully tailored pieces of clothing (plus they're free!). While desperately trying to find something 'formal' to wear for my final presentation at college day before we came across these really well-cut wide leg black pants, they're Benetton from like 10 years ago when it first came to India!
I instantly snapped them up! a tiny tuck here and a little shortening of the length and ...Voila!

When did she first wear the pants?
Even though women started wearing trouser in the late 1800s, it wasn't till the 1970s that it became socially acceptable for women to wear them. It was the french fashion designer Andre Courreges who in the 1960s introduced long trousers for women as a fashion item, leading to the era of the pantsuit and designer jeans and the gradual eroding of social prohibitions against girls and women wearing trousers in schools and the workplace.
I find it really cool that in Britain during the Second World War, because of the rationing of clothing, many women took to wearing their husbands' civilian clothes, including their trousers, to work while their husbands were away from home serving in the armed forces. This both because trousers were considered comfortable and convenient work clothing and because it allowed women to keep there clothing allowances for other purposes.

 Wearing:
Black trousers: Benetton, puffed sleeve top: Forever 21, floral scarf, bangles and belt: thrift, black suede peep toe stilettos: Charlotte Russe, Riding hat: H & M (gift from my lovely friend Aanchal, who is also one of the most creative people I know, she's also a budding photographer and we'll hopefully be doing some fun outfit shoots this winter :))

I love all kinds of floral prints :)

Dress-ed to Chill

I think woolen dresses are great! they look cute and trendy but keep you really warm as well, especially when you have to sit on cold surfaces in the winters, it helps to have something warm covering your behind!
I wore mine with a black polo neck underneath and colorful tights!

Wearing:
Woolen dress: Old Navy, Black polo neck top: thrift, Brown skirt (worn underneath): Forever 21, Purple tights: Hong-Kong street, Brown boots: New York thrift, felt muffler and sling postman's bag: mom's

I'm going to share some tips about storage and maintenance of woolen clothes which work for me personally (I hope they help!). Since pure wool is a protein fiber (its animal hair; most commonly sheep hair) :
  • Always dry-clean/wash woolens before packing them away for storage, otherwise, there's a good chance you will find them half eaten by next winter! Keeping an Odonil or some naphthalene balls in a net bag with them also helps keep the microbes at bay!
  • If you get a stain on woolens remove it as promptly as possible. For lipstick stains, firmly rubbing a piece of white bread on the stain can work well.
  • Hang sweaters and dresses on padded hangers or preferably fold and keep, otherwise, the fabric will tend to hang and lose shape over time (wool is a crinkled fiber so over time the crinkles may open up making the garment longer and bigger).
Happy woolen wearing :)

Professional Practices

I'm doing a Masters in Fashion Management (MFM) from National Institute of Fashion technology (NIFT), Delhi and we have jury's and presentations as part of some of the course papers. It's really great because you get a real feel of what it would feel like to be in an actual business environment giving a presentation in front of people.
I have to admit that I love my course and it feels great to do something you love!
For anyone who is interested in applying to NIFT for admissions 2011, admission forms are out! You can find out more on the NIFT website: http://www.nift.ac.in/
The two year MFM degree is basically an MBA in Fashion, its a great mix of management, merchandising and marketing theory along with fabric and fashion industry specific knowledge, field visits, guest lecturers, project work and lots more!

This what I wore for my 1st final term jury, I have another big one coming up next week (fingers crossed!)
Wearing:
White shirt: Polo Sport, Ralph Lauren, Beige linen pencil skirt: Zingrin, Belt and peep toe wedges: Bangkok, Black cardigan: GAP, nude stockings: Marks and Spencer

I don't have many 'formal clothes', but i love wearing them. I for one am all for power dressing! So, I know three things that are on my shopping list for the winter sales! - formal button down shirts, blazers and parallel trousers in navy, gray and browns.

As for the sacred Exams Countdown- 4 exams down and now 5 more to go! and then its party party party :)

Chain Story

I L-O-V-E chain bags, they're elegant yet amazingly functional. They just need to be slung across the shoulder when you want your hands free and the metal chain adds some bling to the outfit as well, plus, they work for both day and night!
Talking about chain bags, how can I not mention the iconic Chanel 2.55 handbag which bears that particular name simply because it was originally issued in February 1955. Karl Lagerfeld who took over Chanel in 1983 reissued the 2.55 in February 2005. His version is the exactly the one designed by Coco Chanel back in 1955.

Wore this for the farewell party we threw for our college seniors.
Wearing:
Brown high-waist skirt: Forever 21, floral puffed sleeve top: H & M, studded belt: Paprika, Lifestyle, suede peep toe booties: Charlotte Russe, Quilted chain bag: Hong-Kong, Chunky wooden bangles: thrift

I have 3 quilted chain bags myself; an off-white (worn with outfit above) and pink (above and worn in my first post) in patent leather and a beautiful classic black Chanel 2.55 (which is technically my mom's ;))

The stunning 2.55's; the classic black and gold and the colorful and printed newer versions, I seem to want them all!

French Flavour

My beret has got me thinking 'French' and the whole pink and black color pallet on the trench coat dress got me even more in the mood!
It's no surprise that the French are so stylish and inspiring when it comes to fashion, after all, modern 'Haute Couture' originated in Paris in the 1860's, and today Paris is one of the top Fashion Capitals of the world.
I feel that the Parisienne chic style is the epitome of chic elegance.

Wearing:
Trench coat dress: thrifted, black dress (worn under): Benetton, tights and patent leather belt: thrift, suede flats: Charlotte Russe, pendant: Accessorize, beret: Forever 21, silver ring: Silofer, GK M block market

I get this funny urge to over-edit photographs sometimes :P

I love how this trench is so versatile, it can be worn with tights as a dress, over jeans as a trench coat and even over skirts!
